Hornets shutout Troy for sixth straight win.

After starting the season 0-3, the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team shutout Troy 4-0 on Monday, September 24 to score their sixth consecutive win.

The Hornets struck midway through the first half as sophomore Will Poirier scored with the help of senior Brett Rudy. The score remained 1-0 in favor or Wellsboro until the end of the half and seven minutes into the start of the second. Sophomore Kaeden Mann converted from Rudy with 33:19 remaining.

Just a handful of seconds later sophomore Joseph Grab made it 3-0 as Poirier assisted him. Mann then scored his second, and the game's final goal with 17:39 remaining on another Poirier assist.

"Our keeper and defenders' resolve to fend off Troy's attack was critical as our attackers worked to find goal scoring solutions," said head coach Todd Fitch. "In addition to recording a shut out, the match revealed some things that we need to address as we prepare to move forward. It is a process and we'll get there."

Wellsboro outshot Troy 22-11 and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Nate Redell made 7 saves in goal to secure the shutout.

Troy won the JV game 1-0 to drop the Hornets to 3-1-1.

The Varsity team's win moves the Hornets to 6-3 (5-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 26 against rival North Penn-Liberty.
